PTR Class

It was like "old home week" when Tim Hughes visited Glen Creek Tennis Club and conducted a PTR workshop on Sunday, May 11, 2003.  Representatives from area clubs enjoyed his coaching.

Hilton Head PTR

From Jerry O'Hara....

My partner, Tim Hughes, was a pro at Glen Creek prior to moving to Charlotte, NC in 1999 and many of the members will remember him. We teamed up in the 65s doubles tournament at the International PTR symposium on Hilton Head and got to the simi-finals. That is the good news - the bad news was that we played Dennis Van der Meer (his wife is also in the photo) and his partner John Powless in the semis. Powless is the #1 ranked senior in the world in the 65s and just won his sixth straight Australian Open singles championship. We lost 6-2, 6-3 but it was a real thrill to play folks of that caliber. Maybe next year ??

From the Desk...

About the lounge - Our lounge is for spectator use, team functions and parents waiting for their children.  In an effort to keep it neat, and to provide as much seating as possible, please put all tennis bags, coats and other personal belongings in the locker rooms while you are on the court.  If you snack, please clear the table of trash and recycle cans.  It is appreciated if the "Popcorn Lovers" would pick up what ends up on the floor.

Walk-on court time is "UNRESERVED" court time that can be used by our Junior Members that are enrolled in the current session of JET and whose payments are up-to-date.  It is recommended that the Junior call the club prior to driving over.  On rare occasions, the student will be told that a court is available when you call but find that the court has been sold before they arrive.  We hope to keep this inconvenience to a minimum.

Cancellation Policy-  A minimum of 24 hours notice MUST be given for cancellation of all scheduled court reservations and lessons.  With less than 24 hours notice, we will put the court up for sale.  If the court time is not sold, you will be charged.  The person making the court reservation will be held responsible for full payment.  THANK YOU!

Can't find a partner?  You don't need one.  You can practice your lob, volley, forehand and backhand with one of our ball machines!  The ball machines are located in the hallway by the court entrance doorways.  Ball carts are kept behind the curtain on the opposite side.  The ball machine is only $2 plus court time.  PLEASE return the ball machine and cart to their original locations when you are through using them.

Are you missing something?  We might have it!  We keep found items behind the desk and in locker #11 in the hallway behind Court 1.  Check you bag and if you are missing anything, call us ASAP.  Unclaimed items are donated to charity on a quarterly basis.

Looking to entertain your youngsters while you are on the court?  We have a VCR in the lounge for your convenience.  (Parents, please operate the VCR for your small children.)  You may bring your own tapes or borrow one from our limited collection.  We also have some coloring books and games.

Have you moved lately?  Please update your records with us either by email or at the front desk.

Advanced beginner and intermediate men players - Monday Night Beer & Pretzels league is for you!  8-10 pm Sept. 15 - May 14 indoor and 7-9 outdoor during the summer.  This is a fun, social group with a week-to-week sign-up.  Optional snack follows play.

3.0 Women - Join us for the Wednesday 1-2:30 Lunch Bunch.  Week-to-week sign-up allows for flexibility and the time schedule is designed to fit between getting kids back to school after lunch and home before the school bus.  It's also a favorite of retired women and those with part-time work schedules.
